Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions from our travelers.

Can foreign travelers travel independently in Tibet? +
No. All foreign travelers must join an organized tour with a licensed Tibetan travel agency. Independent travel (including backpacking, hitchhiking, or driving your own vehicle) is not permitted. You must be accompanied by a Tibetan guide throughout your stay. We organize fully licensed group and private tours that comply with all regulations.
How long does it take to get a Tibet permit? +
The standard Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) takes 7–10 working days to process once we receive your documents (passport copy and Chinese visa copy). Alien's Travel Permits for areas like Everest Base Camp or Ngari may take 10–14 days. We recommend applying at least 3–4 weeks before your planned travel date.
Is it safe to travel to Tibet? +
Yes — Tibet is very safe for travelers. The region has low crime rates and Tibetan people are known for their warmth and hospitality. The main safety considerations relate to altitude sickness and weather conditions rather than security concerns. Our tours include altitude acclimatization plans, oxygen support, emergency protocols, and 24/7 support from local guides.
What is included in the tour cost? +
Our tour packages include: Tibet Travel Permit processing, accommodation (3–4 star hotels with oxygen supply), all meals, English-speaking Tibetan guide, private transport, entrance fees to all listed attractions, and airport/train station transfers. Excluded: international/domestic flights to Lhasa, Chinese visa fee, travel insurance, personal expenses, and tips.
Can I customize my Tibet tour itinerary? +
Absolutely! We specialize in custom private tours. You can choose your duration, destinations, pace, and activities. Popular customizations include: extending your trip to Everest Base Camp, adding Mount Kailash trek, including Gyantse and Shigatse, photography-focused itineraries, and pilgrimage tours to sacred sites. Contact us with your preferences and we'll design a perfect itinerary.
